1966 Pontiac GTO

Yon don't have to turn the key to be moved by it. If you gravitate helplessly toward every Pontiac you see, you're simply human. Pontiac's heroic good looks have been winning friends and influencing other cars for years now. And when you slip inside one, you'll find that our interiors give our exteriors a stunning run for their money. That Bonneville, for example, carries an electric clock and a walnut-trimmed instrument panel and steering wheel as standard fittings. (As well as front and rear seat belts — be sure to use them.) Underneath it all, of course, It's pure Pontiac. Which means a velvet, Wide-Track ride and V-8's up to 376 hp. So if you're moved by our picture down there, wait until you twist the key on the real thing!

ONLY A MAN WITH A HEART OF STONE COULD WITHSTAND TEMPTATION LIKE THIS. You can wear a blindfold. have your wife tie you to the old family sedan, lock up the checkbook, anything of the kind; but Mister, if you ever hankered to buy a sports car, you're about to become the owner of a new Corvette Sting Kay. Sensible talk about the family budget, the good years left in your present car, any kind of rational thought, forget it! Here's why: The new Corvette Sting Ray, available in sport coupe or traditional convertible model, takes all the excellent characteristics of earlier Corvettes and multiplies them by two. The previous Corvette was the world's most exciting sports car for the last five years, and this new one shows every indication of keeping the title for the next live. It has fully independent rear suspension, bigger self-adjusting brakes, retractable headlights, a V8 engine that's prettier than most girls, and new extra-cost options like a four-speed all-synchro t...

Chevy puts the purr in performance! That new V8 in the '57 Chevrolet is as quiet as a contented cat and as smooth as cream. And it's cat-quick in response when you ask for action! No household labby sitting! in a sunny window ever purred more softly than Chevy's new V8 engine. It's so kitten-quiet and cream-smooth that you can scarcely even tell when it's idling. But when you nudge the accelerator, you know it's there, all right! It pours out the kind of velvety action that helps you he a surer, safer driver. Its right-now response keeps you out of highway emergencies. It overpowers steep hills with such ease they seem like level landscape. With 282 cubic inches of displacement, this beautifully designed V8 is a new, bigger and better edition of the engines that have put Chevrolet at the top of the perfomance ladder. 1940 Lincoln Zephyr

Image
Can you match its 12 cylinder thrift? Tradition dies hard. The Lincoln-Zephvr has a 12-cylinder engine - designed by Lincoln engineers, and the only "twelve" in the medium-price field. A "twelve" is quieter, more flexible, smoother. And, until five years ago, tradition would have said - "More expensive to operate." Since the day of its first introduction, in 1936, the Lincoln-Zephyr "twelve" has been one of the thriftiest engines in the medium-price field! This precision mechanism, built in the famous Lincoln plant, will give you mileage simply unheard of in any other "twelve" ... and better than many engines of fewer cylinders. Lincoln-Zephyr economy has its origin in Lincoln design and Lincoln methods. The unique one-piece body-frame structure in closed types ... steel panels welded to a rigid framework of steel trusses ... keeps car strength high, car weight low. Since the powerful engine has fewer pounds to pull than would otherw...

1971 Plymouth Barracuda

Image
There are two kinds of Those that do On the left you see one of Plymouth's super-tough 1971 'Cudas. A 340 cubic incher. We recommend the 'Cuda 340 for those of you who tend to prefer the merits of a lightweight, high-winding egngine ... for those of you who are well aware that Swede Savage is not a Swede ... and for those of you who just simply won't be happy with anything less than a for-real sporty car. Like all 'Cudas, the 'Cuda 340 possesses an incredibly well engineered underside. ('Cudas carry virtually the same brawny chassis setup as our intermediate-size Supercars.) Heavy-duty torsion bars, rear shock absorbers, rear springs, ball joints, front and rear anti-sway bars and brakes all come standard. Now then, for you hard core straight-liners out there, there's the car on the right, and its legendary engine to consider -the Hemi-'Cuda.

1970 Monte SS 454

Chevrolet pul it all together. Solid gentlemanly comfort without bombast. Sailplane silence. Computer-selected coil springs for a ride that glides. Yet Monte Carlo's handling leaves you feeling like anything but a fifth wheel. A taut 116" wheelbase and a track five feet wide go where pointed. Precisely. And powerfully: a 350-cubic-inch V8 is basic. (Order on up to a 454.) Standard is an instrument panel with the rare look of hand-rubbed burled elm. And Astro Ventilation. Even power disc brakes, fiberglass-belted tires and higher intensity headlights. Nothing’s missing. Nothing except the fat you find on fat cars at fat prices. Monte Carlo. The only car in its field. Period. Putting you first, keeps us first. A group picture of all the cars in Monte Carlo’s field.

The first time you slip iuside a Chevrolet you’ll also see the world of difference some well-placed iuches can make in your comfort. As much as 6 inches added to door openings make your ins and outs easier. Seats up to 14% higher make for easy sitting as well as easy seeing. There's more rear-seat foot room for the man in the middle. And as for that huge bin of a trunk — there's never been one quite like it before. It's easier to load with the lid opening as much as 10.5 inches lower. And you stack luggago 15% higher because of the new recessed floor. Yet - the fascinating fact remaius - this '61 is slimmer and...

SS 396: More than just a straight-line machine. Personally, wo don’t like the idea of a car that goes like a bird when the road's like a ruler, and then turns chicken every time it has to change direction. What’s more, we don’t think you do either. Be assured, we gave every SS 396 an engine - a 325-hp 396-cu.-in. Turbo-Jet V8, with 360- and 375-hp versions on order. That wasn’t all. We gave it a suspension, too. Stiffer coil springs and shocks at all four corners came first. Next, a stiffer anti-sway bar at the front and special frame reinforcements at the back. Then a set of 7.75 x 14 red stripe tires and a fully synchronized 3-speed transmission with floor-mounted shift. By the time we woro finished, we knew we had your kind of machine; a machine that you could use to demonstrate the techniques of safe precision driving to others. The final touch was to paint the grillework black and add two businesslike scoops to the hood. Alter all, this was a machine with a purpose. What we...
